INTERCONNECTEDNESS
THE SITE WAS ANCIENT OLYMPIA, the date January 1993. More than 100
scientists from a variety of disciplines and 20 countries gathered to
discuss how conceptions of human consciousness affect our approach to the
material world. When it was over, they issued a statement--The Olympia
Declaration.
"As every informed and concerned person knows, our planet Earth is
undergoing ecological and social crises which may destroy much of
humanity and other life within the next few decades.
"We believe it is vital to recognize that the basic problem behind
these crises is a lack of understanding of more profound of human
conscious and a dangerous denial of spiritual values. We speak especially
of the realization of our fundamental interconnectedness and
interdependence and the deep values of cooperation which arise from this
realization
"Therefore we, the participants In the Third International
Symposium on Science and Consciousness call for Intense, worldwide
efforts by all people, especially scientists, educators, and decision
makers, to increase our understanding of consciousness and to foster the
development of spiritual values. If not, we are unlikely to
survive."
